Brushing Basics: Tips for a Healthier Smile

While brushing your teeth might seem simple, brushing the correct way makes all the difference in maintaining a healthy smile! Here are a few key tips to keep in mind.

  • Brush for at least two minutes, twice a day, making sure to reach all surfaces of your teeth. Brushing for at least two minutes helps to remove plaque buildup on your teeth, which is a sticky film of bacteria that can lead to cavities or gum diseases if not properly removed.

  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste to protect your enamel and prevent cavities. Using a hard-bristled toothbrush or brushing too aggressively can wear down your tooth enamel and irritate your gums, leading to discomfort or tooth sensitivity.

  • Brush your tongue! This helps to remove bacteria and keep your breath fresh.

  • Replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or even sooner if you notice your toothbrush bristles starting to fray.

By making a few changes to your brushing routine, you can improve the health and quality of your smile!
